Frequently Asked Questions
No. PollThem is completely free and requires no signup for poll creators or voters.
We save your polls in your browser. Visit the "My Polls" page to see polls you've created on this device. You can also bookmark your poll links.
We use browser identification to prevent duplicate votes from the same device. However, determined users could vote from multiple devices or browsers.
Yes, completely free. All features are available to everyone with no premium tiers or feature gating.
We automatically detect each participant's timezone and display times accordingly. The poll creator sets times in their local timezone, and voters see those times converted to their own timezone.
Yes. As the poll creator, you can close voting at any time from the results page and optionally select a winning option. You can also delete polls from the "My Polls" page.
For DateTime polls, once you've selected a final date/time, you can download an ICS file that can be imported into Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar, and most other calendar apps.
We collect minimal data. See our Privacy Policy for details. Poll results are visible to anyone with the link.
Polls are automatically deleted after 1 year from their creation date. This applies to all polls, including closed polls. If you need to keep your results longer, we recommend:
- Download results as an image - Use the "Share Results" button on the Results page
- Copy the text summary - Available in the Share Results modal
- Export to calendar - For DateTime polls, download the ICS file after selecting a final date
Poll expiration (max 45 days) closes voting - the poll remains visible but no new votes can be cast. You can still view results and share them. Poll deletion (after 1 year) permanently removes the poll and all associated data. These are separate: a poll that expired after 7 days will still be deleted 1 year after it was created.
Ranked choice voting lets participants rank their preferred options instead of just selecting one. Voters can indicate their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice (or more), giving you better insight into group preferences and consensus.
When creating a Question poll, enable "Ranked Choice Voting" in the Optional Settings on Step 4. You can also configure how many choices voters can rank (default is 3).
We use a Borda count system where each rank position awards points. If you allow 3 rankings: 1st choice = 3 points, 2nd choice = 2 points, 3rd choice = 1 point. Options are sorted by total points, showing which option has the strongest overall support.
Yes! After creating a poll, click the "Embed" button to get HTML code snippets. You can embed the full poll widget or individual vote buttons. Just copy the code and paste it into your website's HTML. See our Embed Guide for detailed instructions.
Individual vote buttons let you embed a separate voting button for each poll option. This is perfect for custom layouts, tables, or integrating votes into your own design. Each button submits a vote for its specific option when clicked.
Embedded polls use browser localStorage to track voting, similar to how our main site works. Once someone votes through an embed, they can't vote again from the same browser, even if the embed appears on multiple pages.
Yes! The embed widget fully supports ranked choice voting. Users can drag and drop options to rank them in order of preference. The widget automatically detects ranked choice polls and displays the appropriate interface with touch support for mobile devices.
Yes! DateTime (Doodle-style) scheduling polls are fully supported in embeds. Users will see each time option with Yes/No/Maybe buttons to indicate their availability. A name field is required for scheduling polls. Results show response counts with the best option highlighted.
For polls that allow multiple selections, embedded buttons behave differently: clicking toggles selection on/off (the button turns green when selected), and a submit button is automatically generated after the last option button. Users make their selections, then click submit to finalize their vote.
Yes! Use the
data-pollthem-group attribute to create separate button groups. Each group operates independently with its own selection state and submit button. This is useful when showing the same poll options in different locations on your page. See our Embed Guide for code examples.
Yes! If you already know the user's identity from your own authentication system, you can pass their name silently using the
data-pollthem-name attribute on buttons or submit buttons. The name is sent with the vote without prompting the user. This is useful when integrating polls into authenticated web applications.
Yes! Instead of the auto-generated submit button, you can provide your own styled button using the
data-pollthem-submit attribute with the poll ID. Make sure to also add data-pollthem-group if your option buttons use groups. You can style the button however you like to match your site's design.
After you vote on a poll, you can leave a comment to share your thoughts. Your comment appears under the name you entered when voting. Comments are shown on the Results page and are visible to everyone who views the poll. You can edit or delete your own comments at any time.
Comments are enabled by default on all polls. Currently there is no option to disable comments, but only people who have voted can leave comments, which helps keep discussions relevant and prevents spam.
Comment authors can edit or delete their own comments. Poll creators can delete any comment on their polls to moderate the discussion. Comments have a 250 character limit.
Yes! Click the "Present" button on any poll to open a fullscreen presentation view with a large QR code. Attendees can scan the code with their phones to vote instantly. The view supports light and dark themes and fullscreen mode.
Poll templates are pre-configured poll setups for common scenarios like team retrospectives, event planning, quick decisions, and more. They save time by providing a relevant title, pre-filled options, and appropriate settings. Visit our Templates page to browse available templates.
Absolutely! Templates are just starting points. After selecting a template, you can change the title, description, add or remove options, enable ranked choice voting, set an expiration date, and configure any other settings before creating your poll.
On the Results page, click the "Share Results" button. You can download an image (PNG) of your results, copy a text summary to clipboard, or share directly to social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook). See our Sharing Guide for more details.
Yes! From the Results page, click "Share Results" and then "Download PNG". The image includes your poll title, all options with vote counts and percentages, and the poll URL. You can choose between light and dark themes.
Yes! When creating a poll with an expiration date, you can set up a closing reminder. Choose to be notified 1 hour, 6 hours, 24 hours, or 48 hours before your poll closes. You'll receive an email reminder at that time so you can follow up with participants who haven't responded yet. This option only appears when you've entered your email and set an expiration date.
By default, you receive an email notification each time someone votes on your poll. If your poll is getting many responses, this can result in a lot of emails. The "daily digest" option combines all notifications into one summary email per day, showing you how many new responses you received in the last 24 hours. Enable this option in the Optional Settings when creating your poll.
